Report: T-Mobile Could Finally Offer Music Streaming Perks

5 min read

T-Mobile has built a lot of its brand on giveaways. Netflix on the higher plans, Apple TV for a few dollars, Hulu on the top tier, and years of T-Mobile Tuesdays freebies. One thing has been missing the whole time: music.

That may be changing. A leak reported by TmoNews points to a batch of new "On Us" add-ons sitting in T-Mobile's internal systems, and several of them are music services.

What the leak actually shows

According to TmoNews, the internal codes include Apple Music On Us, YouTube On Us (which would likely bundle in YouTube Music), and SiriusXM On Us. On the video and extras side, the same report lists Paramount+ and ESPN+ joining the existing Netflix and Apple TV+ offers, with Xbox Game Pass, Google AI and DashPass rounding out the list.

The working theory in that report is a pick-a-perk setup: customers choose one of these benefits rather than being locked into whatever is currently bundled with their plan. Nothing is confirmed. T-Mobile has not announced any of this publicly, and codes in a billing system sometimes never see daylight. Treat it as a rumor worth watching, not a launch date.

Still, it fits the pattern. T-Mobile has added streaming benefits in steps for years. The company announced Hulu as an included benefit on its top plan back in January 2024, describing it as part of a broader streaming bundle for its customers, per its press release on Business Wire. Music would be the obvious gap to fill next.

Where the current perks sit

Here is what T-Mobile lists on its own cell phone plans page right now. Prices are before AutoPay discounts, and taxes and fees are extra.

Plan

1 line

3 lines

Streaming included

Essentials 2.0

$65

$120

None listed

Experience More 2.0

$90

$185

Netflix Standard with ads on us, Apple TV $3/month

Experience Beyond 2.0

$105

$230

Netflix Standard with ads on us, Hulu on us, Apple TV $3/month

T-Mobile also lists Essentials Saver 2.0 at $55 for one line, and discounted versions of Experience More and Experience Beyond for military, first responders and customers 55 and up at $75 and $90 for a single line. Pricing changes often, so check the carrier's site before you quote anything to a customer.

Notice the shape of it. The entertainment value is stacked on the two most expensive plans. That is the point. Perks are a reason to move someone up a tier, not a gift.

Why this matters beyond T-Mobile stores

If you only sell T-Mobile postpaid, this is a straightforward upsell story. But the ripple reaches further than that, and it reaches different segments in different ways.

Prepaid and MVNO operators. This is where it bites hardest. If a postpaid plan starts including a music service, the gap between a $105 postpaid line and a $40 prepaid line stops being only about data. It becomes about what the customer gets in their pocket every month. Some MVNOs may respond with their own bundles. Others will compete on price and flexibility, which is still a real advantage. If you are weighing brands, our MVNO dealer program comparison for Boost Mobile and Metro is a useful starting point.

Cell phone stores and repair shops. Perks are a conversation opener. A customer who walks in for a screen repair is a customer you can talk to about what their current plan includes. That is free, it takes 30 seconds, and it sometimes turns into an activation. Keep your back-office tools handy too, like APN settings, so a swapped SIM does not stall the sale.

ISPs, home security and call centers. Bundled entertainment is becoming standard language across connectivity. Wireless carriers doing it well raises what customers expect from every provider, including internet and alarm monitoring. If your offer includes something extra, say so plainly on your pricing page.

Wholesalers and distributors. Perks drive plan mix, and plan mix drives device mix. Higher tiers tend to pair with higher-end handsets. If you stock inventory, watch for movement in T-Mobile compatible phones if a benefit change lands.

T-Mobile's giveaway habit is not new

Perks are core to how this carrier markets. PhoneArena has covered T-Mobile Tuesdays giveaways for years, including free subscriptions and device sweepstakes handed out through the app. More recently, Android Authority reported on a stacked month of member perks, showing the company still leans on the app as a retention tool.

Retention is the real job here. Perks cost the carrier money, but churn costs more. Adding a music service is a cheap way to give an existing customer one more reason to stay put.

What to do with this now

A few practical moves, none of which require the rumor to be true.

  1. Audit what your customers already have. Many people pay for a streaming service that is included on their plan. Showing them that is an easy trust builder.

  2. Do not pre-sell a rumor. Never tell a customer a perk is coming. If it does not ship, you own the complaint.

  3. Build a short benefit sheet per plan you sell, with dollar amounts. "$105 per month before AutoPay, includes these services" beats "great value" every time.

  4. Watch the segment you actually serve. If you run Lifeline business, perks matter less than eligibility and service quality. Our guide to choosing your Lifeline carrier or MVNO walks through the questions that matter more there.

  5. Check contracts before you advertise anyone else's brand. Using a carrier's logos or perk names in your own ads can carry restrictions, and a qualified attorney is the right person to review your dealer agreement.

The honest read

Music perks would be a nice addition, not a shake-up. T-Mobile already bundles more video than it used to, and adding audio would round out the story. Some analysts expect rivals to answer with something similar, though nothing has been announced.

The bigger takeaway for operators is simpler. Value is being defined by what is included, not only by the price of the line. If your offer includes something, make it easy to see.
