AT&T and Cricket Wireless share something most competing brands don't: the same network. Cricket is an AT&T company, and its plans page says every Cricket plan runs on the AT&T network.

So why does the store next door sell both? Because the customer is different. One buyer wants a monthly bill with credit checks, device financing and big hotspot allowances. The other wants to pay up front, walk out the door, and never think about a contract again.

This matters beyond wireless storefronts. Repair shops adding activations, call centers doing outbound sales, and wholesalers stocking prepaid SIMs all need to know which brand fits which buyer.

Network Coverage: The Same Towers

This is the easy part of the pitch. Cricket customers ride the AT&T network, so coverage in your market is essentially the AT&T footprint.

What differs is prioritization — a plain-English way of saying who gets served first when a tower is crowded. AT&T's own plan page notes that on Value 2.0, speeds may be temporarily slowed after 5GB when the network is busy, while Premium 2.0 includes high-speed data that doesn't slow based on usage. Cricket's page says Cricket may temporarily slow speeds when the network is busy on its unlimited plans.

For most customers, that difference shows up at a stadium or a busy downtown block at 5 p.m., not on a normal Tuesday. Say that out loud on the sales floor and you'll set honest expectations. Coverage varies by location, so check the carrier's map for the customer's home and work address.

Data Policy in Plain English

On Cricket's Sensible 10GB plan, once 10GB is used, speeds drop to 128 Kbps for the rest of the cycle — enough for texts and email, not for video. The line still works; it just crawls. Cricket also streams video in standard definition on its listed plans.

AT&T's approach on the low tier is softer: after the high-speed allowance, speeds may slow only when the network is congested. Customers who stream a lot usually feel better on Premium 2.0 or higher.

International Features

Both brands cover North America well. AT&T's unlimited plans include talk, text and data in and between the U.S., Canada and Mexico, with Premium adding 20 Latin American countries and Elite adding talk and text plus 20GB of data in 210+ destinations.

Cricket's Smart and Supreme Unlimited plans include calling and texting within Canada and Mexico and use of plan data there, plus texting to 200+ countries. Cricket sells an international long distance add-on and a Passport roaming add-on for travel elsewhere.

Rule of thumb: frequent world travelers lean AT&T. Customers calling one specific country lean Cricket with the add-on.

Device Compatibility

Because both run on AT&T, an unlocked AT&T-compatible phone generally works on either side — but always verify the IMEI before you promise anything. Cricket's site includes a compatibility checker, and eSIM-capable phones can activate quickly. Keep your Cricket APN settings handy for BYOD activations that don't pull data on the first try, and walk newer staff through the Cricket activation steps before their first solo shift.

One detail to flag: Cricket notes a phone bought on promotion may be restricted to the Cricket network until six months of service are completed.

AT&T offers 24/7 support, retail stores, phone and chat. Cricket runs support through its app, chat, its 24/7 digital assistant and its own store network. Cricket also lists a $5 fee for rep-assisted and automated phone payments, which is worth mentioning at the counter so nobody is surprised.
