Training a new rep in 5 days (mini onboarding plan)

A day-by-day onboarding plan: scripts, drills, shadowing, roleplays, and a “ready to sell” checklist that protects your close rate.

Most wireless stores don’t have time for a 30-day onboarding program. You need a rep who can greet, qualify, and sell without wrecking your close rate or tying up your best closer all day.

This 5 day sales training plan is a mini onboarding schedule you can repeat for every new hire. It focuses on the few skills that create results fast: flow, scripts, product confidence, and clean handoffs.

The rule that makes this work

Train in the order customers experience the store: greeting → qualifying → recommendation → close → accessories → handoff/setup.

What you need before Day 1 (30 minutes)

  • A printed “store flow” one-pager (zones + who does what)

  • Your greeting + 3 qualifying questions script

  • Your 3-step price objection script

  • Your Basic / Better / Best accessory bundle sheet

  • A simple pass/fail checklist (included below)

Day 1: Store flow + the first 10 seconds

Goal: they can greet confidently and route customers correctly.

  • Shadow (60–90 min): watch the best rep greet and triage

  • Teach (20 min): store zones + who handles what (closer vs runner vs cashier)

  • Memorize (15 min): greeting script word-for-word

  • Roleplay (30 min): 10 greetings in a row (manager scores tone + clarity)

  • Live reps (30 min): new rep greets 10 real walk-ins with manager nearby

Pass standard: no “Need help?” greetings; uses the script and routes correctly.

Day 2: Qualifying + clean handoffs

Goal: they can qualify fast and hand off to a closer without losing the customer.

  • Teach (20 min): the 3 qualifying questions + what each answer means

  • Roleplay (30 min): 8 scenarios (upgrade, bill too high, broken phone, accessories only)

  • Drill (15 min): “repeat back” technique: “So you’re here for X, and your budget is Y…”

  • Live reps (60 min): greet + qualify + handoff (manager listens to first 5)

Pass standard: can summarize the need in one sentence before handing off.

Day 3: Product confidence (phones + plans) without info-dumping

Goal: they can recommend a “good / better / best” option and explain it simply.

  • Teach (30 min): top 5 phones you sell most + who each is for

  • Teach (20 min): top 3 plan options (or plan types) + who each is for

  • Roleplay (30 min): “recommend in 60 seconds” drill (no tech jargon)

  • Shadow (60 min): watch a closer present two options and close

Pass standard: can explain one phone and one plan in plain English in under 60 seconds.

Day 4: Objections + accessory attach (protect margin)

Goal: they can handle “too expensive” and attach accessories without sounding pushy.

  • Teach (15 min): the 3-step price objection script

  • Roleplay (30 min): 10 “too expensive” reps (monthly vs phone today vs accessories)

  • Teach (15 min): bundle language: “Basic / Better / Best”

  • Drill (20 min): attach script: “Which protection option do you want—Basic, Better, or Best?”

  • Live reps (60 min): sell accessories on accessory-only customers (manager checks phrasing)

Pass standard: offers two options (not discounts) and asks for the bundle confidently.

Day 5: Controlled selling (they sell, but you protect the store)

Goal: they can run a full interaction with supervision and clean escalation.

  • Run 3 full roleplays (30 min): from greeting to close

  • Live selling (2–4 hours): new rep handles real customers with a closer “on deck”

  • End-of-day review (15 min): what went well, what to fix, tomorrow’s focus

The “ready to sell solo” checklist (simple pass/fail)

  • Uses the greeting script (no lazy “need help?” opener)

  • Asks the 3 qualifying questions naturally

  • Can explain good/better/best options without jargon

  • Can handle “too expensive” using the 3-step script

  • Can offer Basic/Better/Best protection confidently

  • Knows when to escalate (fraud flags, angry customers, complex porting)

  • Can do a clean handoff: “Here’s what they want + budget + timeline”

Manager tip: keep it tight, daily, and measurable

New reps improve fastest when you keep training short and daily: 20 minutes teach, 30 minutes roleplay, then live reps with feedback. Don’t wait a week to correct bad habits—fix them the same day.

Final takeaway

This 5 day sales training plan gets a new rep productive fast by focusing on the few skills that drive conversions: greeting, qualifying, presenting two options, handling price objections, and attaching accessories.
