AT&T Port Out Process

The port-out process for AT&T allows customers to keep their existing phone number when switching to another carrier. It involves verifying the customer’s account information and ensuring the account is active before the transfer can take place. This process is designed to protect the customer’s privacy and prevent unauthorized transfers. Once approved by both carriers, the number transfer is usually completed quickly and seamlessly, minimizing any disruption in service.

🔹 1. Gather Required Info

To port your AT&T Wireless (Postpaid) number to another carrier, you’ll need:

  • Account Number:
Found on your AT&T bill or by logging in at att.com/my.
You can also call AT&T Customer Care at 1-800-331-0500 to confirm it.

  • Number Transfer PIN:
Dial *PORT (*7678) from your AT&T device and follow the prompts to generate your Number Transfer PIN.
Or log in at att.com/portoutpin to create it online.
The PIN is valid for 4 days.

  • Billing ZIP Code:
Use the ZIP linked to your AT&T billing address.

🔹 2. Keep the Account Active

Your AT&T Wireless line must remain active and paid up during the transfer.
Do not cancel your service before the port completes, or the number may be lost.

🔹 3. Give Info to the New Carrier

Provide the new carrier with:

  • AT&T account number

  • Number Transfer PIN

  • Billing ZIP code

They will submit the port request to AT&T on your behalf.

🔹 4. Wait for Completion

  • Wireless-to-wireless ports: Usually complete within minutes to a few hours.

  • Landline or VoIP ports: Can take 1–3 business days.

  • Once complete, your AT&T service automatically cancels.

🔹 5. Confirm and Disable AutoPay

After the port is successful:

  • Sign in to your AT&T account or call 1-800-331-0500 to confirm the line is closed.

  • Turn off AutoPay if it was active to prevent additional charges.
