GBP Optimization Playbook FAQ's

How do I know if I picked the wrong primary category?

Search your ideal customer's most common search phrase (like "phone screen repair near me") in an incognito browser from your zip code. If competitors with fewer reviews consistently outrank you, a category mismatch is usually the first thing to check before touching anything else.

Do I really need to post to Google Posts every week?

Posts lose visibility in the knowledge panel after about a week (verify current behavior in your GBP dashboard, since Google adjusts this), so a stale Post from a month ago does nothing for you. A 15-minute weekly habit keeps the profile looking active, which matters as much as the content itself.

Is it against the rules to ask customers for reviews?

No — asking is fine and encouraged. What's not allowed is offering a discount, gift card, or other incentive specifically in exchange for leaving a review. Ask at pickup or via same-day text, and let the review itself be voluntary.

Can I delete a bad customer photo from my listing?

Only if it violates Google's content policies — irrelevant content, spam, or inappropriate material. You can flag it for review through the photo section of your listing, but a photo you simply don't like isn't grounds for removal on its own.
