What is the difference between low-band, mid-band, and mmWave 5G?
Low-band 5G (600-900 MHz) covers wide areas and penetrates buildings well but offers modest speed gains over LTE. Mid-band (1.7-2.7 GHz) is the practical workhorse with significantly faster speeds and decent indoor coverage. mmWave (24-39 GHz) delivers extreme speeds but only at very short range with almost no building penetration. Most real-world 5G is low-band or mid-band - mmWave only matters in dense urban areas.

The wide-area 5G coverage carriers advertise is mostly low-band - faster 5G needs mid-band or mmWave, which only exists in specific areas. Why is the customer's 5G phone showing 5G but speeds feel like LTE?
Does every modern phone support every 5G band?
No. Phone band support varies significantly. Even flagship phones may not support every band a carrier uses in a given market - particularly mmWave, which often requires specific iPhone or Galaxy models. Before activating, verify the device's supported bands against the carrier's bands in the customer's area. Phones sold by the carrier are usually a safe bet; carrier-unlocked phones from other markets may have gaps.
Will 5G replace LTE entirely?
Not in the near term. LTE remains the backbone of US wireless coverage even on phones marketed as 5G - they fall back to LTE whenever 5G is unavailable. Carriers have committed to maintaining LTE for years to come. The practical message for customers: 5G enhances coverage where it exists, but LTE is what they're using most of the time, and that's fine.
