Store Repair Cost & Quote Estimator FAQ's
How is the customer quote calculated?
Quote = parts cost × (1 + markup% / 100), plus labor hours × labor rate, plus your shop supplies fee. Each piece shows separately in the breakdown so you can see exactly where the price comes from.
What counts as job profit here?
Job profit is the quote minus your parts cost, minus labor cost (assumed equal to what you charge for labor, since this tool doesn't separate a tech wage), minus the supplies fee treated as pass-through. If you actually pay techs hourly regardless of job time, adjust your labor rate input to reflect true margin.
Is the shop supplies fee treated as profit?
Yes, by default, since most shops don't track exact consumable cost per job. If you do track real supply costs, subtract them from the fee before entering it, or treat the difference as extra profit manually.
What markup percent should I use on parts?
There's no universal number — many independent repair shops run 20-50% over cost depending on part type and local competition. Check what techs in your market charge and verify with your parts supplier what your true landed cost is before setting markup.
