Samsung’s Galaxy Fold phones go on presale April 12, will hit T-Mobile stores April 26

April 11, 2019

Samsung’s new Galaxy Fold phone will go on presale tomorrow, April 12. It is expected to hit stores in the U.S. on April 26, but Samsung will begin taking pre-orders for unlocked versions of the phone on its website tomorrow.

T-Mobile confirmed the availability of the Galaxy Fold in its own press release. It said the foldable phone will be available online April 25th at 9 pm PT, and will be available in stores in the following day.

While AT&T has not said when it will begin selling the Galaxy Fold, a video popped up on YouTube earlier this week showing a hands-on demo of the phone on the AT&T network, spurring speculation that the handset will arrive for AT&T customers shortly.

Verizon and Sprint, on the other hand, won’t be selling the Galaxy Fold, at least not at launch. Verizon has obtained an exclusivity window for the Galaxy S10 5G, though, and will begin selling that phone in May, when Samsung officially launches it in the U.S. Samsung said it will begin taking pre-orders for the S10 5G "soon," and offered no update on pricing for the phone.

AT&T boasted that it would be selling two 5G-capable smartphones from Samsung in a press release earlier this week. It had previously announced it would begin selling the S10 5G phone once Verizon’s exclusivity window closes. It’s possible that AT&T will hold off on offering the Galaxy Fold until the 5G-version becomes available, which is expected later this year.

T-Mobile, meanwhile, will likely become the first U.S. carrier to offer the LTE version of the foldable phone in the U.S. The carrier said the phone “connects to T-Mobile’s 600 MHz Extended Range LTE to give customers even better coverage than before in buildings and rural areas,” and added that T-Mobile has deployed LTE-Advanced technologies such as 256 QAM and carrier aggregation across its entire LTE footprint.

AT&T has deployed the same technologies across its footprint, but has branded the network as "5G E."
