T-Mobile is taking on Square, Clover and other mobile point-of-sale applications with the launch of its own platform. T-Mobile has partnered with global payments provider TSYS to power its new GoPoint mobile point-of-sales software platform for small and medium business customers.
Verizon, AT&T and Sprint already offer mobile POS systems and applications for business customers.
T-Mobile GoPoint customers will need a compatible smartphone or tablet with a T-Mobile ONE data and voice plan and a GoPoint card reader. T-Mobile will charge businesses 2.75% for debit and credit card transaction processing. Each GoPoint account can have up to 99 users, each with access to the tools. The app includes reporting for managing sales transactions, tracking inventory and receiving analytics. Customers won’t be charged software licensing fees, and qualified customers will receive free same-day funding.
Square, for comparison, charges businesses between 2.75% and 3.5% for processing card transactions, and it charges up to $60 per month for software licensing.
T-Mobile has also launched a suite of business-critical mobile device management and productivity software, called T-Mobile for Business Marketplace. It offers marketplace advisors that can help businesses choose the best software from options such as Microsoft Office 365, Intuit QuickBooks Online, DocuSign Business Pro, IBM MaaS360 and VMware AirWatch Express, and it offers on-boarding guidance and 24/7 support. T-Mobile is also offering SMBs and self-employed customers the option to add four voice lines to a T-Mobile ONE plan at a discount and receive a free year of QuickBooks Online Simple Start or Essentials edition.
