Sprint unveils 5G Experience room at Kansas City HQ

March 14, 2019

Sprint has cut the ribbon on a new “immersive” 5G center in its Kansas City headquarters. The center is designed to demonstrate to consumers how 5G works and how it will impact day-to-day life. The company held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its headquarters to unveil the space ahead of the commercial launch of Sprint’s 5G network. Sprint is aiming to launch commercial 5G service in May.

“This dedicated venue will provide unique and interactive ways to tell the story of 5G and help visitors visualize the types of innovations it will bring,” said Steve Gaffney, Sprint VP of media and experiential marketing, in a statement.

The 5G Experience center contains a dozen or so stations and demos that use augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR) and simulated screens to show visitors the building blocks of 5G technology, ranging from spectrum and fiber networks to Massive MIMO technology and real-world 5G demos.

Sprint is offering private tours of the facility to small and medium businesses, enterprise and government customers and other customer prospects, as well as the greater Kansas City economic development community.

“As we prepare to launch Sprint 5G with so many companies in our ecosystem, we are proud to be working with them to showcase what is possible with our next-generation technology in our new 5G Experience,” said Dr. John Saw, CTO of Sprint, in a statement.

Sprint will launch 5G services in Atlanta, Chicago and Dallas in the first wave of launches. The company said it will launch 5G in Houston, Los Angeles, New York City, Phoenix and Washington, D.C., in the first half of 2019.
