For the second time in 6 weeks, TracFone's Walmart Family Mobile has increased the amount of data included with most of its plans.
The $29.88 plan gets a bump from 2 to 3 GB of high speed data. Before May 3 this plan only included 1 GB of high speed data.
The 39.88 plan jumps from 5 to 6 GB.
The $49.99 plan sees an increase from 13 to 15 GB. $49.88 plan customers are also entitled to a free $7 VUDU movie rental credit each month. Before May, this plan only came with 10 GB of high speed data
There are no changes this month to the $24.88 plan which got bumped up from no data to unlimited data (first 1 GB high speed) iast month. As before, all plans include unlimited voice minutes, unlimited messaging and unlimited 64 kbps throttled data after the first 1 to 15 GB of data at high speeds.
Walmart Family Mobile is sold exclusively at Walmart stores and online. It's a T-Mobile MVNO, and in spite of the Walmart branding, is owned and operated by TracFone, which acquired the brand from T-Mobile in September, 2016.
I'm not sure what prompted Family Mobile to update its plans twice in barely a month. But last month TracFone switched Family Mobile accounts TracFone billing systems to its own platform. The switch caused billing and data issues for some customers, you can see some of the complaints in the comments on this post. Maybe the data increases are part of an effort by Family Mobile to acquire new customers to replace the ones lost due to migration issues.
