Sprint just notified Boost Mobile dealers that the Boost $35/month plan will be getting more data. Starting tomorrow, May 16, the plan will include 3 GB of high speed data per month, up from the current 2 GB.
The $35 plan also provides unlimited voice and messaging on the Sprint network, plus 50 minutes per month of off network voice roaming. As before, the plan includes unlimited audio streaming. Hotspot is allowed at no extra cost and unlimited 128 kbps 2G data is available after the first 3 GB of data is used. Customers using auto-pay are eligible for a $5/per month discount.
It's always good to see operators adding more value to their plans, but can't say this change impresses me much. The increase does make Boost's 3 GB plan $5/month cheaper than the 3 GB plan from T-Mobile's MetroPCS. However , the actual cost difference is smaller because MetroPCS pays its customer's taxes for them, while Boost passes point of sale taxes such as state sales tax on to the customer. At the $35 price point, Boost isn't even competitive with Sprint's other prepaid brand, Virgin Mobile which includes 5 GB of high speed data with its $35 plan. However Virgin does charge an extra $5/month for hotspot and doesn't offer an auto-pay discount, except to iPhone users.
