T-Mobile won’t carry Samsung’s Galaxy Fold when it’s released in September

T-Mobile has announced that it will not carry Samsung’s Galaxy Fold when it’s released in September.

“While we don’t have plans to carry the Galaxy Fold, we’re working with Samsung to make sure it works great on our network,” said a T-Mobile spokesperson in an email to FierceWireless.

This news comes just after Samsung announced that the technical flaws in the Galaxy Fold, which was originally slated to be released in April, had been fixed. These included flickering screens, problems with its hinges and with the design of the display’s top layer, which some reviewers peeled off, wrongly believing it to be a removable protective cover.

Originally, the only mobile carriers that had committed to selling the device were AT&T and T-Mobile, both of whom had to cancel all of their pre-orders when the phone’s flaws were discovered. AT&T has not yet indicated whether or not it plans to sell the phone upon its release.

The Galaxy Fold still has no firm release date, but its intended September rollout may be obscured by Apple, if it releases an upgraded iPhone as it typically does in that month. That may actually work in Samsung’s favor, if the South Korean company wants to release the product with little fanfare, thereby avoiding drawing more attention to its troubled history.
