AT&T MVNOs Prepaid Monthly Plans

AT&T is the second largest wireless provider in the USA. Being second, however, doesn’t mean that it falls far behind the Verizon considering coverage, consistent speeds, overall presence, quality of customer service, and being reliable. AT&T’s network covers both urban and rural regions, which is already enough for many users. AT&T is GSM based and therefore has one of the best phone selections. AT&T’s prepaid side of business is also competitive. Customers can choose from AT&T’s prepaid division GoPhone and its prepaid brand Cricket Wireless. Cricket is part of AT&T since 2014. In addition, there is a number of AT&T MVNOs that customers can choose from. Even though the selection of AT&T MVNOs is satisfying, still, it’s not as large as, for example, Sprint’s or T-Mobile’s. Obviously, conditions of reselling service of these two companies are easier to meet than of Verizon or AT&T.

AT&T Gophone Prepaid Monthly Plans

GoPhone is AT&T’s prepaid division that keeps up with competition. Their plans are improving constantly and competing directly with Verizon Prepaid; they are adding new features as Stream Saver and options like Multi-Line Discounts for their customers. GoPhone unlimited monthly plans are:

  • $30 plan ($25 with autopay) – unlimited talk, text and unlimited messaging to Mexico, Canada and over 100 countries; data can be added for $5 per 250MB

  • $45 plan ($40 with autopay) – unlimited talk, text and data with 6GB at high speed

  • $65 plan ($60 with autopay) – unlimited talk, text and data with download speeds limited to 3Mbps, video at 480p resolution and streaming at 1.5Mbps

All plans come with free data roaming and calls and texts to and from Canada and Mexico. Also, all plans qualify for multi-line discounts.

Multi-Line discounts provide $5 off the second added line, $10 off the third line, $15 off the fourth and $20 off the fifth line per month. For businesses, number of lines per account continues to up to 10 so each line added after fifth (6-10) offers $20 discount per month.

GoPhone also offers $2 daily plan with unlimited talk and text. To this plan, feature phone owners can add data: 1¢/5KB or $1/100MB. Smartphones user can purchase additional data package of $1 per 100MB. Both feature phone and smartphone users have access to data saving feature, Stream Saver that streams compressed videos at 480p (DVD quality). There is also pay as you go option: 25¢ per voice minute, 20¢ per text and 1¢ per KB with Stream Saver.

After high speed data allotment, GoPhone throttles data speeds to around 128Kbps on the $45 plan until the next billing cycle. GoPhone offers service on AT&T’s native network only with no roaming. Carrier adds taxes and fees to costs of plans.

Airvoice Wireless Prepaid Monthly Plans

AT&T MVNO Airvoice Wireless used to offer 3G data only, but last year they’ve added LTE. Airvoice plans include 5-day and monthly options:

  • $5 unlimited 5-day plan includes unlimited talk, text, picture messaging and international texting plus 25 MB of data with first 12.5 MB at high speeds and other half at reduced speeds

  • $20 monthly unlimited plan – unlimited talk, text, picture messaging and international texting and 100MB of data with first 50 MB at high speeds.

  • $30 monthly unlimited plan – unlimited talk, text, picture messaging and international texting and 1 GB of data with first 500MB at high speeds, and unlimited calling to more than 80 countries

  • $50 monthly unlimited plan – unlimited talk, text, picture messaging and international texting and 5 GB of data with first 2.5 GB at high speeds and unlimited calling to more than 80 countries

The second half of data allotment is throttled to 128Kbps. The carrier is also offering a $10/250 minute plan and Pay as you go options.

  • $10 250 minute plan – up to 250 minutes or 500 texts; 4 cents per minute; 2 cents per text; 6,6 cents per MB; 10 cents per message; 10 cents per international SMS; 10 cents per international MMS

  • Pay as you go service: $10/90-day, $20/120-days, $30/150-day, $50/180-day and $100/365-day cards; 10 cents per minute, text or MMS and 6,6 cents per MB.

Customers can add more high speed data on unlimited plans for 2.5¢ per MB by purchasing a $10 Cash Card. Balance on cash card that’s not used doesn’t expire providing that customers keep the account active.

AirVoice Wireless also offers International long distance calling available for more than 80 countries. They offer two options, Airvoice’s $10 Unlimited ILD Plan valid for 31 day and international Pay Go (pay-as-you-go) calling to destinations not included in the unlimited plan.

AirVoice is a good choice for customers who don’t use their phone often since their pay as you go rates are competitive. For unlimited monthly service, customers should look at other carriers that focus on monthly plans, like Cricket for example.

Consumer Cellular Prepaid Monthly Plans

AT&T MVNO Consumer Cellular is AARP’s exclusive wireless service provider that offers prepaid service and wireless phones to senior citizens. Company, that’s around for 21 years now, is no longer offering basic simple phones only to its customers. Lately, their customers have started demanding what everyone else has had access to, latest smartphones. And thanks to targeting a niche and paying attention to customers’ wishes and needs, Consumer Cellular grows, which is not the case with many other prepaid carriers these days. Their plan offerings look like this:

Consumer Cellular voice minute plans

  • $10 per month – Pay -Per-Use minutes for 25¢ per each

  • $15 per month – 250 voice minutes

  • $20 per month – 1500 voice minutes

  • $30 per month – unlimited talk

Consumer Cellular text and data plans

  • $2.50 monthly plan – 300 texts and 30 MB of data

  • $5 monthly plan – 2000 texts and 200 MB of data

  • $10 monthly plan – unlimited text and 500 MB of data

  • $20 monthly plan – unlimited text and 1.5 GB of data

  • $30 monthly plan – unlimited text and 3 GB of data

  • $40 monthly plan – unlimited texts and 5 GB of data

Customers who go over their allotment are automatically upgraded to a higher priced plan that includes used amount of minutes, texts or data. Whenever they want, they can return to the previous plan without being charged. They can share their minutes, texts and data with family and friends by adding them for $10 per line per month. To the above costs, Consumer Cellular adds taxes and fees that can go up to 30%. Also, their coverage is the same as AT&T postpaid coverage, which is a great feature. It includes off-network voice, text and 2G data roaming.

Cricket Wireless Prepaid Monthly Plans

Cricket Wireless is AT&T’s prepaid brand that operates on AT&T native network only (no roaming). Unlike GoPhone’s high speed data, Cricket’s LTE speeds are limited to 8Mbps and 4G to 4Mbps. Still, this carrier is one of the rare prepaid carriers who are offering unlimited high speed data for $65 per month (T-Mobile’s MetroPCS has unlimited LTE). Cricket’s monthly unlimited plans are:

  • $30 plan – unlimited talk, text and data with first 1GB at 4G LTE speeds

  • $40 plan ($35 with auto pay) – unlimited talk, text and data with first 3GB at 4G LTE speeds

  • $50 plan ($45 with auto pay) – unlimited talk, text and data with first 8GB at 4G LTE speeds, unlimited international texting (SMS only) to 38 countries, unlimited calling, texting (text, picture and video messaging) and data roaming in Mexico and Canada

  • $60 plan ($55 with auto pay) – unlimited talk, text and 4G LTE data, unlimited international texting (SMS only) to 38 countries, unlimited calling, texting (text, picture and video messaging) and data roaming in Mexico and Canada

Cricket also added a Stream More feature. When switched on, Stream More saves data by streaming videos at DVD quality (about 480p). Customers can turn this feature on and off at any time.

When high speed data limit is reached in a monthly plan, Cricket throttles data to around 128Kbps until the next billing cycle. The carrier is offering Group discounts for families, too. Cricket monthly plan rates already include taxes and fees so there are no additional costs at the end of the month.

H2O Wireless Prepaid Monthly Plans

AT&T MVNO H2O Wireless has lately started to keep up with other prepaid providers. Previously, it was pretty inactive; in fact, it was decreasing amount of data instead of increasing it to better compete with others. Luckily, that’s changed now. They have recently added more data to plans and have started offering promotions with more data to attract customers. H2O Wireless plans include:

  • $30 plan ($27 with auto pay) – unlimited talk, messaging and data with 1 GB at 4G LTE speeds (3 GB until April 30, 2017), unlimited international texts, unlimited talk to over 50 countries and a $10 international calling credit

H2O is no longer offering rollover data on monthly plans so data that are not used up during a month will be lost. There is also a 10% discount on Pay-As-You-Go option when you enroll in autopay. H2O’s coverage is like GoPhone’s, no roaming.

Jolt Mobile Prepaid Monthly Plans

AT&T MVNO Jolt Mobile used to operate on T-Mobile, too, but that’s not the case anymore. Jolt’s unlimited plans include data allotments that users have no access to even they’ve paid for it. Net10 offers plans for every need: monthly plans, family options, pay as you go, upgrade phone plans and more, which is a positive thing. All TracFone subsidiaries throttle data speeds to 64Kbps after high speed data allotments are used up. Most other providers throttle around 128Kbps.

Straight Talk Wireless Prepaid Monthly Plans

Straight Talk Wireless is yet another AT&T MVNO, TracFone-owned, which operates on all four major networks. This carrier offers only monthly plans, service for 3, 6 and 12 months and no low-cost pay-as-you-go options. They offer a large selection of smartphones of all brands and a BYOP option. However, their customer support is not U.S. based just like Net10’s so users complain about it the most. Straight Talk monthly plans are:

TracFone Wireless Prepaid Monthly Plans

TracFone used to be pay-as-you-go focused provider with affordable basic but reliable handsets until it eventually added Android smartphones and plans to its prepaid lineup. For Androids, minutes, texts and data are tripled separately, unlike with regular refill, so a $19.99 60-minute card, for example, adds 180 minutes, 180 texts and 180 MB of data instead of just 60. In addition, TracFone sells separate data card for Android phones only, $10 for 1GB of data (1¢/MB).

TracFone’s smartphone and BYOP plans are:

FreedomPop Prepaid Monthly Plans

Customers can purchase the $10 SIM card compatible with any certified GSM phone and access AT&T’s LTE network. Their monthly plans include:

  • Free – 200 minutes, 500 texts and 200 MB of data,

FreedomPop’s voice and messaging are VOIP and OTT based. Its CDMA service is on Sprint’s native network (no roaming) while GSM uses AT&T’s and T-Mobile’s networks.

Most of these AT&T prepaid brands or AT&T MVNOs have a field in which it is more or less competitive. Cricket is, for example, the one that offers unlimited high speed data while AirVoice and H2O offer lowest pay as you go rates. AT&T MVNOs like Red Pocket Mobile, Cricket and H2O offer competitive international features while FreedomPop provides free service. In any case, research is necessary when choosing between AT&T MVNOs or its prepaid brands.
