AT&T Prepaid Port Out Process
The port-out process for AT&T Prepaid allows customers to keep their existing phone number when switching to another carrier. It involves verifying the customer’s account information and ensuring the account is active before the transfer can take place. This process is designed to protect the customer’s privacy and prevent unauthorized transfers. Once approved by both carriers, the number transfer is usually completed quickly and seamlessly, minimizing any disruption in service.
🔹 1. Gather Required Info
To port your AT&T Prepaid number to another carrier, you’ll need:
Account number – not the same as your phone number.
You can find it by calling AT&T Prepaid customer care at 611 (from your phone) or 800-901-9878, then request your account number.PIN / Port-Out PIN – this is your number transfer PIN.
To get it, *dial*PORT(7678) on your AT&T phone and follow the prompts.
Or sign in to your AT&T Prepaid account → Profile → Generate Number Transfer PIN.
🔹 2. Make Sure the Account Is Active
Your AT&T Prepaid line must be active to port out.
If it’s suspended, canceled, or has a $0 balance, the port will fail.
🔹 3. Provide Info to the New Carrier
Give your new carrier:
Your AT&T Prepaid account number
The Number Transfer PIN (valid for 4 days)
The billing ZIP code tied to your AT&T Prepaid account
The new carrier initiates the transfer (you don’t need to contact AT&T directly).
🔹 4. Wait for Completion
Wireless-to-wireless ports typically take minutes to a few hours.
Landline or VoIP ports may take 1–3 business days.
Your AT&T Prepaid service will automatically cancel once the port completes.
